Yota plans LTE voice service in 2014

13 Aug 2013

Russian Long Term Evolution (LTE) provider Yota plans to launch voice telephony services over its 4G network in 2014, TassTelecom.ru reports, quoting general director Yegor Ivanov. The voice call services will initially launch in Moscow and St Petersburg, before being extended to cover the remainder of Yota’s network footprint. Ivanov noted that although the network is already ready to support voice telephony, regulatory issues still need to be resolved. It remains unclear how Yota’s recently announced USD1.2 billion takeover by sister company MegaFon will affect its transition towards becoming a fully-fledged wireless service provider.
