T-Mobile US sees 1.1m net subscriber additions in 2Q13

9 Aug 2013

T-Mobile US has reported its strongest quarterly subscriber growth for four years on the back of the introduction of the iPhone to its handset line-up in early April this year. The firm said it added 1.1 million net new customers in the three months to 30 June 2013, with another 8.9 million added thanks to its acquisition of MetroPCS; T-Mobile now has just over 44 million subscribers. The MetroPCS deal saw revenues for the second quarter jump 27.5% year-on-year to USD6.23 billion, though the operator reported a net loss of USD16 million in 2Q 2013, down from a profit of USD207 million in the year-earlier period, due to increased capital expenditures, which were up 95% at USD1.1 billion. Sales were up 7.9% on a pro-forma basis.
