Maxis reiterates expectation for CAPEX of MYR1 billion in 2013

8 Aug 2013

Malaysia’s Maxis has reportedly said it will maintain its plan for capital expenditure (CAPEX) of MYR1 billion (USD307 million) this year, with Bernama noting that such investment will be used for expanding the operator’s LTE network and the number of devices its offers. Citing Maxis’ joint chief operating officer Nasution Mohamed it was reported that in the first half of 2013 Maxis had spent less than half of its budgeted CAPEX – MYR407 million – on the maintenance and improvement of its network. With the executive commenting on the network rollout progress, and having confirmed that Maxis had expanded its HSPA coverage to 5,500 sites nationwide, he said: ‘We will continue to maintain our 4G network leadership in the country … Maxis has successfully expanded its 4G LTE coverage beyond the Klang Valley to Penang and Johor Bahru and was the first to provide our networks to Sarawak and Sabah, starting with Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.’
