Vodacom reported to be close to Neotel takeover deal

7 Aug 2013

The South Africa-based telecoms group Vodacom is reportedly carrying out due diligence on the country’s second national operator (SNO) Neotel following the successful outcome of takeover talks between the two firms. The report from local website MyBroadband cites ‘two independent industry sources close to the negotiations’. It was revealed in May this year that Vodacom and South African rival MTN were vying to acquire Neotel, which would be a prized asset for both firms due to its spectrum holdings and nationwide fibre network. Vodacom and Neotel did not comment on the latest reports, MyBroadband said.
