Net losses widen at Charter Communications, though sales rise 5%

The US cable operator Charter Communications has seen net losses increase in the second quarter to end-June 2013, despite a 5% rise in revenues to USD1.97 billion. Net loss increased to USD96 million, from USD83 million in the year-ago quarter. Although there was double-digit growth in sales at the firm’s internet segment, revenues from telephony services were down 27% at USD158 million. The company reported 262,000 net new broadband internet subscriber additions for the quarter to take its total internet user base to 3.92 million.
