freenet has announced consolidated group revenue of EUR809.6 million (USD1.07 billion) for the second quarter of 2013, an increase of 7.1% from EUR755.9 million in the year-ago period. Group EBITDA decreased slightly from EUR85.6 million in Q2 2012 to EUR85.2 million in the same period of 2013, while group net income rose 33.2% year-on-year from EUR41.6 million to EUR55.4 million. freenet’s mobile communications division saw revenue increase 8.3% year-on-year to EUR801.6 million, while EBITDA for the core segment dropped from EUR87.2 million in Q2 2012 to EUR85.6 million twelve months later.
At 30 June 2013 freenet’s mobile customer base totalled 13.56 million (down from 14.46 million twelve months earlier), of which 5.00 million were pre-paid customers (compared to 6.23 million at mid-2012), 5.81 million were contract users (up slightly from 5.69 million a year earlier) and the remaining 2.75 million were ‘no-frills’ customers (primarily comprised of mobile contracts completed online in the discount market), up from 2.54 million twelve months previously. Commenting on the results, freenet’s CEO Christoph Vilanek said: ‘From our proven position as resellers, we are increasingly serving the growth segment digital lifestyle with attractive products and services. The first half shows that this strategy is paying off.’
