Antimonopoly decision on Ukrtelecom sale expected within month

7 Aug 2013

The decision of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMC) on the purchase of incumbent Ukrtelecom by domestic conglomerate SCM – parent of smaller telco Vega and part-owner of cellco Astelit – will be issued within a month, according to deputy chairman of the AMC, Rafael Kuzmin. As quoted by BizLiga, the official said that the antitrust agency was waiting for responses from the telecoms regulator and sector participants before deciding whether or not the takeover will impact on the competitive environment in the telecoms market. Austrian owner Epic agreed to sell its 92.8% stake in Ukrtelecom – Ukraine’s dominant fixed line network operator and sole provider of 3G W-CDMA/HSPA mobile services – to SCM in early June.
