Duo launch MNP

5 Aug 2013

Two of Azerbaijan’s wireless operators, Bakcell and Azerfon (Nar Mobile), have launched mobile number portability (MNP), according to local news agency Trend. The service, which enables a customer to retain their number if they switch provider, is free of charge and takes up to six days to complete. The launch follows reports last week that the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies (MCIT) was looking to sue mobile operators over their repeated failure to introduce MNP. The ministry allegedly said that it has suffered financial damage and is looking for compensation from the market’s players.
