MCIT seeks compensation from cellcos over MNP delays

2 Aug 2013

Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies (MCIT) is looking to sue the country’s mobile operators over their repeated failure to introduce mobile number portability (MNP). The ministry told local news source APA that although the number portability management system has been in place for a year, the implementation of the service has been delayed as the cellcos are not yet technically ready for MNP. The MCIT claims that it has suffered financial damage and is looking for compensation from mobile operators. The move follows the failure of Azercell, Bakcell and Azerfon to meet the most recent MNP deadline of 1 August 2013.
