T-Mobile improves indoor coverage in Amsterdam; completes first 4G network upgrade

1 Aug 2013

As part of the first phase of its ‘Achieve More Together’ wide-scale network upgrade programme, T-Mobile Netherlands says it has improved indoor coverage and mobile broadband speeds in south east Amsterdam. In addition, the cellco says that all the preparatory work for its new 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network in the Greater Amsterdam region is complete and will be ready for launch from this autumn. T-Mobile says it is installing 60 masts each and every week and moving forward, intends to accelerate these network improvements across the rest of the country. As such, it says that by the end of 2014, the vast majority of the Dutch population will be reached by its 4G signal.

T-Mobile is employing the latest integrated Single RAN (SRAN) radio technology for the deployment, which in many areas will be extended in the 900MHz band (UMTS-900). It is also supporting the ‘Achieve More Together’ programme by deploying EDGE and HSPA+ upgrades, it said.
