Mexico’s dominant fixed line provider Telefonos de Mexico (Telmex) is said to have put forward a plan under which it aims to disconnect some 60,000 public telephone booths across the country. According to El Universal, the operator is looking to shut down the booths due to the high costs associated with their operation and maintenance. It is understood that the plans have been passed to the sector regulator Comision Federal de Telecomunicaciones (Cofetel).
