Sunrise continues purchasing spree

30 Jul 2013

Swiss telco Sunrise has announced that it has acquired pre-paid mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) Ortel Mobile. The purchase follows the cellco’s takeover of another pre-paid MVNO, Lebara, earlier this month and forms a key part of the operator’s strategy to position itself as Switzerland’s premier provider of low-cost pre-paid international calls and data services. As with Lebara, Sunrise will operate Ortel as a separate business that will continue to focus on niche markets with ‘specialised needs for national and international mobile calls.’ Ortel Mobile was launched in Switzerland in 2011 by its previous owners, KPN of the Netherlands. No financial details of the acquisition were disclosed.
