Angolan pay-TV and broadband operator TV Cabo is preparing to introduce the country’s first triple-play voice telephony, TV and internet service. Metaswitch Networks, a provider of next-generation IP communications solutions, announced in a press release that TV Cabo’s triple-play offering for residential and business customers will be supported by its products including the Perimeta Session Border Controller, MetaSphere Multimedia Telephony App Server, and Accession Communicator desktop and mobile client software. Francisco Ferreira, director general of TV Cabo, said: ‘We are introducing a triple-play solution, available on both SIP and analogue telephones, to accommodate our customers’ requirements. Additionally, we will be integrating Metaswitch’s interactive dashboard, CommPortal Web, to enable our pre-paid subscribers to manage their own services and information remotely.’
TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database says that up until now TV Cabo – a 50/50 joint venture of Angola Telecom and Portuguese conglomerate Visabeira Group – has offered double-play packages of cable TV and internet over a HFC cable network but not telephony, while last year it launched a range of services based on a fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) network initially aimed largely at businesses.
