J:COM’s profit up by 26.1% to JPY23.2bn

Japanese cable operator Jupiter Telecommunications (J:COM) has published its financial results for the six months ended 30 June 2013, reporting a marginal revenue increase of 0.3% year-on-year, to JPY186.993 billion (USD1.89 billion). The company booked a net profit of JPY23.245 billion, up 26.1% from JPY18.435 billion reported in 1H12, while EBITDA improved by 16.7% y-o-y, to JPY39.509 billion.

In operational terms, J:COM reported a 8.0% surge in high-speed broadband subscriptions, which reached 2.053 million at 30 June. Elsewhere, cable TV users increased just 0.4% y-o-y, with the operator blaming the proliferation of newly-established IPTV operators for eating into its market share.
