Hutchison Global Communications Limited (HGC), the fixed line division of Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings (HTHKH) has launched ‘enterprizCloud’ and ‘bizCloud’ aimed at offering large-scale companies and small-to-medium sized enterprises (SMEs) respectively ‘one-stop shop’ solutions combining network connection and cloud services.
HGC’s press release says: ‘enterprizCloud meets SSAE16 and European Safe Harbour requirements, thereby assuring corporate customers of highly-secure and reliable cloud services. enterprizCloud reaches across geographies that include Hong Kong, the American states of California and Virginia, Amsterdam in the Netherlands, Sydney in Australia, Johannesburg in South Africa and Tokyo in Japan. Unlike most public clouds using layer 3 network architecture, enterprizCloud adopts a layer 2 model, granting customers the efficiency and flexibility of setting up hardware-based networking – such as VLAN, firewall and VPN – to suit a variety of purposes and enable individual company departments to use the service. enterprizCloud is highly scalable and offers an easy-to-use web-based interface that allows HGC or customers to activate or change computing resources. Customers are also able to scale computing resources, such as storage, up or down within just 20 to 30 minutes to match unpredictable levels of need.’ Both of HGC’s new cloud solutions are supported by its ROADM-based 100G optical backbone network.
Previous cloud solutions launched by HGC include ‘eduCloud’ (2011) to provide eLearning applications on a cloud platform for Hong Kong’s education sector. HGC subsequently joined forces with Oracle to provide cloud data backup and disaster recovery offerings, serving Hong Kong enterprises, while earlier this year, HGC launched ‘ibizCloud ‘ services on an international scale, combining the On-demand Virtual Leased Line service with cloud services for international customers.
