India’s GSM industry association COAI has reported that the country was home to 671.13 million GSM users at the end of June, with net additions for the month standing at 3.57 million. Bharti Airtel added 1.26 million net new users in June to take its customer total to 190.91 million, while Idea Cellular was not far behind with 1.21 million net adds to reach 124.97 million. Aircel saw almost 612,000 additions as it hit 60.97 million users at the end of June, and Vodafone India attracted more than 345,000 net new customers to end the month with a subscriber base of 155.03 million. Of the other larger GSM providers, BSNL saw its own user total remain static at 97.17 million, while Uninor gained just under 300,000 subscribers to reach 32.30 million. As noted in TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, India also has a thriving CDMA wireless market, led by Reliance Communications (RCOM) which had over 122 million subscribers at the end of March 2013.
