TeliaSonera’s Q2 EBITDA falls 1.2% on 3.9% sales decline

Swedish telecoms group TeliaSonera has posted net revenues of SEK25.274 billion (USD3.803 billion) in the second quarter of 2013, down by 3.9% year-on-year, while quarterly EBITDA decreased by 1.2% to SEK8.928 billion (although the EBITDA margin increased to 35.3% from 34.4% a year earlier). Operating income decreased by 10.8% year-on-year to SEK6.283 billion in April-June 2013 (compared to SEK7.044 billion in the same period of 2012), including non-recurring items of minus-SEK802 million (minus-SEK242 million in 2Q12). Net income attributable to owners of the parent company decreased by 16.9% y-o-y to SEK4.031 billion in Q2 2013.

The group’s total consolidated mobile customers in its Scandinavia/Baltics/Spain division reached 20.724 million at the end of June 2013, up from 19.767 million a year earlier, while the fixed broadband line total shrank to 2.394 million from 2.495 million in the same period. PSTN fixed voice lines were reduced to 3.355 million at mid-2013 from 3.819 million twelve months before, although voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP) lines increased from 606,000 to 710,000. At TeliaSonera’s Eurasia division, consolidated mobile customers across seven countries grew to 43.219 million at the end of Q2 2013, up from 37.528 million at the end of the same period of 2012.
