Telefonica Germany, the country’s fourth largest mobile network operator by subscribers, has long-term plans to expand its LTE services nationwide, Susanne Faude, the company’s director of network quality assurance, and Bernd Bergmann, Senior Lead Access Engineering, told teltarif.de. Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) is expected to be demonstrated by the operator, which offers services under the brand O2, in the first quarter of 2014, though the company currently has no plans to introduce LTE roaming abroad or a pre-paid option. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database states that Telefonica Germany expanded its 4G network to the cities of Hamburg, Duisburg and Essen on 2 July, following earlier launches in Munich, Berlin, Frankfurt, Cologne, Nuremberg, Leipzig and Dusseldorf.
