UPC plots IPTV launch

16 Jul 2013

UPC Romania plans to launch an IPTV service, Broadband TV News reports, with a view to securing a modest subscriber base of around 10,000. Quoting documents filed with the National Audiovisual Council (CNA), it is suggested that the National Authority for Management in Communications (ANCOM) awarded UPC a licence to operate an IPTV service on 30 January this year. UPC Romania is present in the both country’s buoyant cable market, where it is the second largest operator, and also the DTH sector, through its Focus Sat platform. However, IPTV remains undeveloped in Romania, with Romtelecom one of its few proponents.
