Tattelecom buys Kazan arm of SMARTS Group

16 Jul 2013

Tattelecom has acquired SMARTS-Kazan from Volga-based SMARTS Group, Tattelecom CEO Lutfulla Shafigullin told Interfax. Fixed line operator Tattelecom, which is located in the Republic of Tartarstan, entered the local wireless market in April 2012 via a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) agreement with SMARTS. However, the unexpected takeover suggests that Tattelcom has outgrown its initial 100,000 number allocation, prompting it to piece together a deal for its host network operator instead.
