Sunrise snaps up MVNO

Swiss cellco Sunrise has announced its acquisition of mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) Lebara for an undisclosed sum. According to a statement from the cellco, Lebara specialises in pre-paid services with a particular focus on low-cost international calls. The acquisition was completed on 1 July 2013, and Sunrise will continue to operate the MVNO as a separate company. Commenting on the takeover, Libor Voncina, CEO of Sunrise, said: ‘With the acquisition of Lebara, Sunrise will become clear number one for pre-paid offers with focus on low-cost international calls and data services with the clear aim to strengthen our customer focus in the pre-paid segment.’
