PLDT deploys Ciena-based international intelligent optical mesh network

12 Jul 2013

Network specialist Ciena Corporation has announced that telecoms giant Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) has deployed its Ciena 5410 Packet-Optical Reconfigurable Switch System (RSS) and OneConnect Intelligent Control Plane software across its global network footprint. The deployment allows PLDT to create a global mesh network that interconnects points of presence (PoP) worldwide into a highly resilient, intelligent mesh switching network to provide greater network performance, efficiency and resiliency to meet stringent service level agreement (SLA) requirements. The Filipino operator will be able to offer its customers high-capacity SONET/SDH, OTN and Ethernet dedicated services, while Ciena’s control plane software will enable PLDT to fine tune its networks to respond to changing network demands, it said.
