Bharti looking to spark 4G growth with VoLTE

Bharti Airtel has sought permission from the Department of Telecommunication (DoT) to conduct trials for voice-over-Long Term Evolution (VoLTE), the Hindu Business Line reports. The tests will be carried out by Wireless Business Services – a joint venture between Airtel and US chipmaker Qualcomm that became a Bharti Airtel subsidiary earlier this month – in the Delhi, Mumbai, Haryana and Kerala circles. As noted by TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Airtel tasked Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) with deploying Circuit Switched FallBack (CSFB) to its LTE network in Pune in February this year, enabling subscribers there with compatible handsets to transfer automatically to Airtel’s 2G network to make and receive calls and send messages.
