Vodafone New Zealand has confirmed that its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network has gone live in Taupo on the North Island, following launches in Auckland, Christchurch and Queenstown. Russell Stanners, CEO of Vodafone New Zealand, noted that the carrier now has more than 135,000 4G-capable devices active on its network. He added that LTE will be available to around 75% of the Taupo population by the end of July.

TeleGeography notes that the impressive 4G subscriber uptake shows no signs of slowing down; Stanners previously disclosed a user base of 120,000 in late June prior to the Queenstown launch, up from the 60,000 LTE device users counted on 29 May, when the network went live in Christchurch.
