French-US vendor Alcatel-Lucent and new Ghanaian wireless provider Surfline Communications have announced the commercial deployment of a 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network in Ghana. According to a vendor press release, Alcatel-Lucent will provide hardware and software, along with installation, optimisation, maintenance and managed services, to support Surfline’s deployment of 4G LTE services. The new IP architecture-based network will give Surfline the ability to quickly and economically expand mobile broadband capacity as customer demand grows. The network will be initially deployed in the capital Acrra, and the coverage will be later expanded to all major cities in a consequent national rollout. No further details on the value of the contract have been released.
