8 Jul 2013

Located on the border of Nepal and Tibet (China), Mount Everest will soon be served by 4G mobile coverage thanks to an initiative by China Mobile and Chinese equipment maker Huawei Technologies. The two firms have installed time division (TD)-LTE equipment at a base station situated approximately 5,200m above sea level to provide climbers with ultra-high speed mobile internet access. Huawei president David Wang says that the deployment is a milestone for global TD-LTE development: ‘We are very excited to make this possible, and look forward to working with more operators worldwide to bring high speed mobile broadband services anytime and anywhere,’ he said.
