Mobile operator Vodafone Ireland has published details of its latest data network expansion, which will see mobile phone users in the Wexford area, in the south east of the country, get high speed mobile data services everywhere it already has voice coverage. From this month, some 145,000 people in Wexford will be able to experience the benefits of enhanced services covering areas such as Adamstown, Arthurstown, Blackwater, Bunclody, Cahore, Campile, Carnew, Castlebridge, Clonroche, Courtown, Enniscorthy, Ferns, Fethard-on-Sea, Gorey, Kilmore Quay, Kilmuckridge, New Ross, Oilgate, Rosslare and Wexford Town. In addition, the cellco confirmed that a number of locations along the N11, N25 and N301 will also be covered in the upgrade.
To date, Vodafone Ireland has invested at least EUR1 billion (USD1.3 billion) in the development of its mobile networks in Ireland, and its nationwide network upgrade has been enabled by its acquisition of the largest allocation of spectrum in ComReg’s auction of frequencies in November 2012. The carrier says that the investment in Wexford and the wider South East is the first step in a nationwide network upgrade programme to bring data services to everywhere there is currently a mobile voice service.
