New Macedonian MVNO Albaphone plans August launch, report says

Macedonia-based mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) Albaphone plans to launch commercial operations in the country in August this year, local media agency MIA reports. The newcomer, which is headquartered in Skopje, will use the network infrastructure of Telekom Slovenije’s local unit ONE to host the service, as it looks to dip its toe into the local market. Albaphone chief executive officer Adrian Hohxa says that the start-up will initially target ethnic Albanians living in Macedonia, who make up roughly 25% of the country’s two million-strong population. Albaphone has obtained one million phone numbers from Macedonia’s national telecoms regulator the Agency for Electronic Communications (AEC) to support its launch.
