Hutch to ditch Orange brand by 19 August

2 Jul 2013

Hutchison 3G Austria (H3G), which completed its long-running EUR1.4 billion (USD1.87 billion) acquisition of Orange Austria in January this year, is set to phase out the latter’s branding from 19 August, Der Standard reports. The move marks the beginning of a three-pronged integration strategy, the first phase of which will see Orange’s GSM network connected with that of H3G’s national roaming partner T-Mobile Austria in late-July. Meanwhile, the August to October period will see Orange’s 3G network folded into that of its new owners. Going forward, the third and final phase of the plan will see H3G establish a total of 6,000 2G, 3G and 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) base stations before the end of 2015.
