A1, Alca-Lu achieve 1Gbps in ‘G.fast’ trial

2 Jul 2013

French-US vendor Alcatel-Lucent and A1 Telekom Austria have conducted what they claim is the world’s first trial of ‘G.fast’ transmission technology, notching up speeds of 1.3Gbps over a distance of 70 metres. The vendor notes that G.fast will typically support speeds of 500Mbps over 100 metres, making the technology ‘a promising option for service providers to complement their fibre deployments’. G.fast uses Bell Labs Vectoring techniques, similar to those already used in VDSL2 deployments.
