Qatari firms circling TI’s fixed line spin-off?

1 Jul 2013

Unnamed Qatari funds have reportedly held discussions with Telecom Italia (TI) about acquiring a stake in its spun-off fixed line business, as the company seeks to create an independent ownership structure for its network. The Financial Times, citing two sources with knowledge of the situation, suggests that the new investors are likely to create a more balanced ownership structure, suggesting that TI does not need to retain such a large shareholding in the network that will carry its data traffic.
