According to Business Day, South African telecoms giants MTN and Vodacom, are rumoured to be in talks with second national operator (SNO) Neotel over a possible buy-out. Citing ‘well-placed market sources’, the publication reported that formal bids to buy the SNO are due in this week. A third interested party, Dimension Data, has also been linked with a takeover approach.
According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Neotel’s current shareholders are Tata Communications (68.5%), Nexus Connection (19.0%) and Communitel (12.5%).
