Verizon LTE network reaches 500 markets; PCS spectrum refarming slated for 2015

28 Jun 2013

Verizon Wireless has confirmed that its Long Term Evolution (LTE) network has reached 500 markets, giving the mobile giant 4G coverage of around 298 million American citizens. Further, with the network said to be ‘substantially complete’, it now handles more than 57% of the company’s data traffic. Citing a media briefing by chief network operator Nicola Palmer, Fierce Wireless reports that Verizon expects to be in a position to refarm some of its PCS spectrum for LTE use from 2015. At the same time, the carrier expects demand for its 3G network to decrease to about one-half of peak demand by the same date, giving the company the option of refarming some of that spectrum for LTE too.
