Regulator to auction 800MHz spectrum in August

28 Jun 2013

Lithuania’s Communications Regulatory Authority (RRT) has announced an auction for so-called ‘digital dividend’ spectrum licences in the 791MHz-821MHz and 832MHz-862MHz frequency bands. One lot of 10MHz and four lots of 5MHz spectrum are proposed for the auction, with the single criterion for evaluation of auction participants to be the bid price. The regulator said that it has attached a coverage obligation to one auction lot, under which the winner will have to provide high speed broadband services to at least 95% of rural households by 2020. The auction will begin on 8 August 2013, while the watchdog also plans to launch a tender for spectrum in the 2500MHz-2690MHz frequency band in the second half of the year.
