Qatari group officially adopts Ooredoo name

28 Jun 2013

Qatar’s Ooredoo has changed its registered legal name in its home country to Ooredoo QSC from its previous name Qatar Telecom (Qtel) QSC. The Ooredoo name was previously adopted as the group’s brand in Qatar following an announcement in February, and the official name change was approved by shareholders at an extraordinary general assembly meeting on 31 March. The Gulf Times reported that Ooredoo confirmed on 25 June that it had obtained the required legal and regulatory approvals to change its legal name to Ooredoo QSC. The company said that ‘at this time the company’s ticker symbol QTEL.QA remains unchanged with announcements to be made in due course.’ The Ooredoo group has a presence in countries including Qatar, Indonesia, Oman, Algeria, Tunisia, Iraq and Pakistan, and yesterday won one of two operating licences in Myanmar.
