Phase3 Telecom has teamed up with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to expand its fibre infrastructure to rural communities, local newspaper Daily Trust cites Otuya Okecha, the company’s head of Business Solutions and Sales, as saying at a Lagos conference. The work forms part of the government’s Backbone Transmission Infrastructure Project (BTRAIN) under the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF). BTRAIN aims to deploy 10,000km of fibre backbone infrastructure to accelerate the rollout of backbone transmission infrastructure to all local government areas in Nigeria. ‘This development upon full execution will greatly boost the government’s focus towards ensuring Nigeria becomes a globally recognised and appreciated IT-driven economy which is a key metric to sustainable economic growth and job creation,’ Okecha said.
