Industry regulator Consejo Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (Conatel) estimates that Paraguay will see a total of 210 municipalities connected to the government’s national fibre-optic network by June 2014. According to TeleSemana the fibre deployment is being bankrolled by the national Universal Service Fund (USF); Tigo was the first operator to receive USF cash last year, and deployed fibre in 28 new locations. This year saw mobile operator Vox awarded funding, with a view to adding a further 84 locations to the fibre-optic total in 2013/14.
