ArmenTel to launch IPTV ‘soon’; owners set long term goals

28 Jun 2013

Armenian fixed and mobile operator ArmenTel, which markets services under the Beeline branding of its Russian parent Vimpelcom, plans to launch an IPTV service ‘as soon as possible’, its incoming CEO Andrei Pyatakhin has said. The official declined to provide a precise timeframe for launch, however, noting that first ArmenTel needs to iron out a number of regulatory issues with the government and the industry watchdog.

In a related story the CEO, speaking in his first news conference since taking over at the telco, says that Vimpelcom has set him the task of developing ArmenTel’s fixed and mobile networks in the long-term. ‘To earn money right now is not what long-term investors want,’ ARKA News quotes Pyatakhin as saying. ‘VimpelCom Group has two large long-term investors, which are not seeking quick returns.’
