Five winners of 4G concessions

27 Jun 2013

Diego Molano, Minister for Information Technology and Communications, has revealed that five companies have won 4G concessions in Colombia. The winners have been named as Movistar (which paid COP198 billion [USD103 million] for 30MHz in the AWS [2100MHz/1700MHz] band), a consortium formed by ETB and Tigo (COP196 billion for 30MHz in the AWS band), Avantel (COP107 billion for 30MHz in the AWS band), DirecTV (COP72 billion for 30MHz and separately COP78 billion for 40MHz in the 2.5GHz band), and Claro (COP120 for 30MHz in the 2.5GHz band). The bid from Mexico’s Azteca 4G was unsuccessful, and the auction for spectrum in the 1900MHz band was declared void.
