Taiwanese multi-service operator Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) has said that it expects to increase its mobile internet subscriber base to 3.6 million by the end of 2013, hot on the heels of having announced that at end-May customer numbers had surpassed three million. According to the Digitimes, CHT believes it will beat its original estimate of 3.5 million mobile broadband subscribers at end-2013 as it is recorded an average of 100,000 new customers each month during the first five months of this year. With a view to further boosting uptake, the report also notes that CHT is aiming to shift around 500,000 of its existing 2G subscribers to 3G services by the end of this year; of its 10.4 million mobile accesses, around 32% are currently still using its 2G services. Another tactic which the telco will use is to increase its marketing of tablets bundled with contract tariffs, and CHT is now expecting to sell 250,000 tablets in 2013, up from its previous estimate of 200,000.
