NetUno expands pay-TV coverage using Media Networks' satellite services

Venezuelan multi-play cableco NetUno has signed an agreement to use the satellite direct-to-home (DTH) network of Telefonica subsidiary Media Networks in order to augment the coverage of its pay-TV services, RapidTVNews reports. Media Networks’ commercial manager Leandro Gaunszer said of the wholesale deal: ‘The agreement will strengthen Media Networks’ position as leader among DTH providers in Latin America… Under the concept of generic brand[ing], we offer the best time to market of the industry, making available to our customers over 500 digital signals.’ Media Networks, a B2B services division of Spanish telecoms group Telefonica, provides wholesale pay-TV services, satellite internet access, audiovisual solutions and content creation to clients in countries including Spain, the US, Chile, Argentina, Colombia and Venezuela. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that Telefonica’s Venezuelan mobile and fixed network operating subsidiary, Movistar Venezuela, launched nationwide retail DTH satellite pay-TV services in October 2008, and reached 215,000 pay-TV customers by the end of 2012.
