Ooredoo committed to spend QAR1bn to reach 100% fibre goal

20 Jun 2013

Qatar Telecom (Ooredoo) is committed to invest more than QAR1 billion (USD274 million) to expand its direct fibre broadband network ‘Ooredoo Fibre’ – launched commercially in January 2012 – to pass all households in Qatar by the end of 2014, said its chief commercial officer Waleed Al Sayed, quoted by Arabian Business. The telco added that it is preparing to launch a specially-priced ‘Ooredoo Business Fibre’ package aimed at small and medium sized businesses. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database says that by Q4 2012 the company’s direct fibre rollout had covered 135,000 homes in Qatar, while it has now connected more than 50,000 active customers to high speed fibre services including internet and IPTV.
