UK-based Vodafone Group is said to be considering the acquisition of Italian internet service provider (ISP) FastWeb in an effort to expand its fixed assets, people familiar with the matter have told Bloomberg. FastWeb, which is currently owned by Swisscom, is said to be on a ‘list of potential targets’ drawn up by Vodafone executives. Further, the British group has already made two informal approaches for FastWeb – one this year, and one in 2011 – both of which were rejected by the firm’s Swiss owner. As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, last week Vodafone lodged an informal offer for Kabel Deutschland. Although the two parties are still thought to be thrashing out a price for the cableco, Bloomberg notes that a deal could cost the UK company as much as USD9 billion.
