Vodafone India has been fined INR1 billion (USD17.2 million) by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for providing Subscriber Local Dialling (SLD) – which bypasses roaming charges by transferring roaming customers to a local network – in 2003-2005 in Mumbai and Delhi. The Economic Times writes that Bharti Airtel was fined INR6.5 billion in May for providing SLD in 13 regions.
