Association head calls on govt to accelerate 3G/4G licensing

14 Jun 2013

The president of the Pakistan Software Houses Association, Jehan Ara, has used the forum of the sixth annual Pakistan Telecommunications Conference 2013 (TeleCON 2013) to urge the national government to speed up the licensing of frequencies for 3G and 4G mobile services, local paper The News reports. In an address to delegates the official said: ‘The government should auction the licence for 3G in three to four months instead [of] one year the government announced [this week],’ adding that the country has developed a number of apps for advanced mobile internet services and as such, is ‘capable of implementing 3G and 4G technologies any time’. Ms Ara’s views were echoed by Furqan Qureshi, a senior vice president of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited, who said: ‘Whatever the problems have been, we need to leave the past behind and move on. We have an opportunity here so let’s take the next steps for the benefit of people of Pakistan.’
