Montenegro to create new state-owned telco

11 Jun 2013

Montenegro’s deputy minister for electronic communications and postal services, Ratko Strugar, has announced plans to create a new state-owned telco by the end of the year, which will consolidate the fibre-optic resources of Montenegrin Railways, Montenegrin Power (CGES) and the Radio Broadcasting Centre (RDC). Balkans Insight writes that the government has tasked a team of experts to prepare a study on the plans. The ministry expects that the new telco will not only provide fresh revenue streams for the state budget, but will also contribute towards improving the competitiveness of the sector, increasing quality of service and reducing costs.
