Vodafone New Zealand has switched on a new 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) base station at the Mystery Creek Events Centre, which is situated on the outskirts of Hamilton. The deployment represents the company’s first live LTE site in a rural location after launches in major cities such as Auckland (February) and Christchurch (May). Vodafone’s Rural Sector Sales Manager, Jeremy Anderson, commented: ‘Our network rollout across rural New Zealand is connecting more farmers and rural residents every day. By the end of this month more than 100,000 addresses will have access to wireless broadband under the Rural Broadband Initiative (RBI). We have built 43 new towers and upgraded 160 existing sites to deliver broadband to rural communities throughout New Zealand’.
