Vodafone NZ launches LTE in Christchurch on schedule; cellco claims 60,000 4G connections in Auckland

6 Jun 2013

Vodafone New Zealand launched its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network in Christchurch on 29 May as planned, making it the first South Island city to receive access to the technology. At launch coverage was said to be limited, but is expected to increase to 70% of the city by July. As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, Vodafone inaugurated its LTE network in Auckland in February this year. The initial launch already appears to be bearing fruit, with CEO Russell Stanners commenting: ‘4G has captured customers’ imaginations, with over 60,000 now enjoying the benefits of 4G, only on Vodafone’.
