New regulator bill gets green light

5 Jun 2013

A bill to spin off a new telecoms regulatory body in Chile has been passed by the lower house and submitted to the upper house – the Senate – for consideration. The legislation would see the responsibilities of the regulator split into two entities, one, the Department of Telecommunications, to spur industry development and a second, the Superintendent of Telecommunications, to handle supervision of the market and the punishment of telcos violating regulations.
