Bakcell announces that its network modernisation project has begun

Azerbaijani mobile network operator Bakcell has confirmed that its network modernisation project has gotten underway. Working in partnership with Chinese vendor Huawei, Bakcell announced that the upgrading of its whole transmission network had begun with a view to extending capacity; under the project the cellco will migrate to the MPLS-TP technology using Huawei OSN series equipment. Highlighting the current status of its infrastructure, the cellco noted that today its transmission network core ring capacity in regional centres had reached 40Gbps, while the capacity of all edge routers in administrative region centres stood at 15Gbps.

Commenting on the network development plans, Bakcell’s chief technology officer Yigit Berktash said: ‘Bakcell’s network is a hybrid network that hosting modern IP Transport technologies together with classical TDM/ATM. In order to handle huge 3G IP traffic, deliver high service quality and high throughput to our customers we started modernisation of the network.’
